Validators
An overview of the role of validator and the process of becoming a validator
Role Definition
Regen Ledger is built on top of the Tendermint delegated Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm and requires validators to secure the network.
Thus, we are powered by our global validator set: a constellation of companies, individuals, and community members that run the nodes securing our public blockchain.
Validators play a similar role in a PoS network as miners do in a PoW network. The differences is validators are enormously energy efficient, and the validator community tends to be much more open, cooperative and actively engage to build value and utility on the networks they chose to validate for.
Validators run a full node and participate in consensus by broadcasting votes that contain cryptographic signatures signed by the validator's private key. Validators commit new blocks in the blockchain and receive revenue in exchange for their work.
Validators must also participate in governance by voting on proposals. Validators are weighted according to their total stake.
Validators are the unsung heroes of proof of stake networks, and form the foundation of security, governance and uptime of Regen Ledger.
Becoming a Regen Network Validator
Becoming a Regen Network validator is just as an important part of our ecosystem and we value anyone who attempts to do so. In order to do so the first step is to spin up a validator server by following our guides and becoming familiar with our github. Next you will want to self-delegate but you will also want to gain delegations from others.
Delegators typically have their own criteria for choosing which validator to delegate to, so when starting your journey to becoming a validator on the Regen Network you should ask yourself the following questions.
Are you running secure and reliable infrastructure and have you disclosed your architecture?
Are you in some way trying to apply the high level application logic to create ecological credits?
Are you working to engage a broader community?
Are you a professional validator?
Did you perform well during testnets (if applicable)?
Does RND Inc know who you are?
Are you active within the community on discord and in this forum?
